(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Police investigations have revealed the owner of the cab that was used in the drive by shooting that left several dead. 5 suspects including underworld gang member, Aruna Damith Udayanga alias Samayan and 2 prison officers near the Kalutara prison were killed.
The owner of the cab is a woman residing in Athurugiriya.
Police noted that the woman had rented out the cab to the group of individuals.
The cab had been transferred among a few individuals and operations are underway to arrest the individual who had used the vehicle last.
Police have currently identified the group connected to the murder as being underworld gang members.
A committee has been appointed by the prisons department in order to investigate the incident.
Prison spokesperson, Thushara Upuldeniya noted that the deceased underworld gang member Samayan and the 5 other inmates were being held at the Kalutara prison as they had received death threats previously.
Police are conducting further investigations in to the matter.
