(UTV|COLOMBO) – Police have arrested six suspects including the driver and media spokesman of National Thowheeth Jama’ath’s Zahran Hashim in Kattankudy.
Speaking to a prominent online news portal, a senior officer attached to the Kattankudy Police said the suspects were arrested during a special operation carried out following a tip off received by Police.
Upon investigations it was revealed the group received training on carrying out suicide bombings and weapons training.
It was revealed the group was trained under the leadership of the main suspect of the Easter Sunday bombing Zaharan Hashim.
The Kattankudy Police has meanwhile seized a number of suspicious items following questioning.
Speaking to a prominent online news portal a senior officer of the Kattankudy Police said the items seized include clothing and face masks suspected to be worn by the suicide bombers in a video with several persons seen taking a pledge.
Police has meanwhile handed over the driver of Zaharan Hashim to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.
The officer said five of the six suspects arrested will be questioned under detention orders for a period of three days.
