(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Korea will grant Rs 375 million for the development of the aquaculture sector in the country as a result of the discussions held by Fisheries and Aquatic Resource state Minister Dilip Vedarachchi with the Korean Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries.
The minister said that the money to be granted will be given to the National Aquaculture Development Authority to develop the sector.
Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives has agreed to donate two fisheries technical colleges and one technical college will be established in the North while the second will be established in the south said the minister.
In addition Korea has agreed to construct multipurpose fisheries harbors and they will be constructed in Udappuwa, Chalai, Madagal, Delft and Tangalle. They have agreed to do the feasibility studies as well as the planning free of charge and a high level team will be in Sri Lanka next week.
