England and Lancashire opener Hameed avoids serious injury

(UDHAYAM, UK) – England opener Haseeb Hameed did not suffer serious damage after having to retire hurt with a hand injury while playing for Lancashire.

The 20-year-old was struck after facing only 23 balls against Cambridge MCCU at Fenner’s on Sunday.

It was his first innings since having sinus surgery.

“Haseeb has been reviewed by the club’s hand specialist this morning and scans have cleared him of any bone damage,” said a Lancashire statement.

“He will be assessed over the coming days.”

Lancashire begin their County Championship season at Essex on Friday.

Hameed made his England debut in India last year and scored 219 runs in three Tests before a finger injury forced him out of the final match of the series.

He was unable to play for the MCC in last month’s Champion County match against Middlesex in Abu Dhabi in March following the sinus operation.

England do not have any home Tests until July because of the Champions Trophy.
