(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Nine years after Deadpool and Wolverine first featured in a film together, they could be reconciled – but rather than playing a character in the upcoming Deadpool sequel, Hugh Jackman could simply appear as himself.
Speculation has been rife that Jackman could return after his performance as Wolverine in Logan, a film seen by many as the best in the entire X-Men series, had fans begging for one last stint – and they saw 2018’s Deadpool 2 as the perfect opportunity for a cameo.
Jackman last year conceded that working with Deadpool producer and actor Ryan Reynolds was an “awesome” and “attractive” prospect – but the possibility has always been seen as fairly farfetched.
However, after an interviewer from The Hollywood Reporter planted a new idea in the mind of screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the possibility of Jackman playing himself in next year’s film suddenly looks far more likely.
“Oh my gosh, that’s one we haven’t heard. That’s not a bad idea – I like that,” Reese said.
“Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He’s got the People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh.
“That would be really funny.”
Reese’s reference to the People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover is an allusion to the final scene in the original Deadpool film, in which he removes his mask to reveal another mask, which is just a cut-out of Jackman’s face from a magazine.
Wernick and Reese say they’re close to finishing a draft of the script for the new movie, which doesn’t yet have a specific release date.
