SLPP-TNA talks end on sour note

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Talks between TNA spokesman Parliamentarian M.A.Sumanthiran and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo ended on an unsuccessful note, TNA Parliamentarians said.

They said that when Gotabaya Rajapaksa was asked abut his proposed solution to the North East problem, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa had interjected saying that people in the South were facing greater problems than those confronting the Tamil people. Both Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa had said most problems confronting people in the North and East and that of the South were similar. At the conclusion of the talks, both Rajapaksa had said they hoped to fund solutions to the Tamils in the North and East under a future government.

The TNA Parliamentarians said when Parliamentarian Sumanthiran placed a report of the discussions to TNA leader R.Sambandan, he had expressed his serious displeasure at the outcome of the talks.

“Sambandan had further said that there was no point in having further discussions with Gotabaya Rajapaksa about his solutions to the North East problem because the Tamil people could never win their rights or receive any relief from the Rajapaksa clan,” TNA Parliamentarians pointed out.
