(UTV|COLOMBO) – SLFP parliamentarian A.H.M. Fowzie said yesterday that he will take legal action against one of the TV Channels for distorting his speech made at the NDF election rally held in Thotalanga, Colombo, recently.
Fowzie told a media briefing in Colombo: “What I actually said was that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa should be defeated in order to protect the SLFP wherever as this TV Channel distorted and said Gotabhya Rajapaksa should be killed in order to protect the SLFP.
This TV channel has distorted my reputation and character by telecasting something that I have not said.” He added:
“I do not have any record of scolding, attacking or murdering anyone and I have engaged in clean politics for the whole of my life.”
“Although I am a good friend of the Rajapaksa family, I am not helping Gotabhaya this time as he is aligned with the forces of extremists and communalists. I actually urged the people to defeat Gotabhya as 98 percent of the SLFP members have already joined with SLPP while the rest of 2 percent will join the SLPP if Gotabhaya wins the election.”
He was addressing a media briefing held at NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s election office at Vauxhall Street yesterday.
