Atmospheric disturbance to move away from Sri Lanka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The atmospheric disturbance in the South-West Bay of Bengal to the South of Sri Lanka has moved into the Arabian Sea and now located to the South-West of Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology forecasted today (29).

The atmospheric disturbance is likely to move away from the country while developing further, the Meteorology Department stated that under the influence of the system prevailing showery condition particularly in the Eastern, Uva and Southern Provinces, and in Puttalam District is likely to continue today.

Accordingly, the possibility for sudden roughness of sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Hambanthota and Galle is still high. Therefore fishing and Naval community are requested to be vigilant in this regards today.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Southern, Uva, Eastern, Northern, North-Central Provinces, and in Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kalutara and Matale Districts, the Meteorology Department stressed that showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00 this evening.

Furthermore, heavy falls between 100 – 150 millimetres can be expected at some places in Southern, Uva and Eastern Provinces, while fairly heavy falls about 100 millimetres can be expected at some places in Puttalam District.

The Meteorology Department added that the windy condition is expected to increase up to 50 – 60 kilometres per hour at times over the island.
