“Govt. totally de-politicised public sector” – Prime Minister

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (28) requested people to vote for New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa if they want the present government’s long term socio-economic development plans to become successful and benefit the country.

Wickremesinghe also observed that the present government has totally de-politicized the public sector appointments including the appointments and promotions of teachers and principals.

The Prime Minister made these observations at an event organized by the Association of Professional Nursing Officers for a New Sri Lanka headed by Government Nursing Officers’ Association president Saman Rathnapriya, under the directions of Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne.

The Association of Professional Nursing Officers for a New Sri Lanka pledged their support to NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at this event which was held at Sri Lanka Foundation Institution yesterday afternoon.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that the government has made the largest investments for the country’s health and education sectors.

“This government has allotted for the education and health sectors unlike any other government that has ever been before. We have developed 9,000 schools under the ‘Langama Pasala-Hondama Pasala’ project. We have taken steps to appoint new teachers for science education. We don’t have untrained teachers in the country anymore. The schools that only offer arts subjects for the A/L examination will be offering science subjects soon. Over 44,000 university students have been provided with hostel facilities. This government did all this with great difficulties,” Wickremesinghe pointed out.

Speaking further the Prime Minister, “All these facilities were provided while the country was going through a debt crisis. We had enormous loans to be paid off. No one was interested in giving us anymore loans. We did not complain about the Rajapaksa regime and refrain from giving benefits to the people. Though we had large debts to be serviced, we gave salary increments and allowances for our people. We never said no to your requests.”

The Prime Minister also said that the country should pay off all its debts in the coming decade.

“We cannot allow our children to be burdened by these debts.

“We had several white elephants including the Mattala airport, Hambantota port and auditorium. Only peacocks came to the Mattala airport and only wild elephants came to Hambantota auditorium. Now, we are working with India to attract flights to Mattala airport.

“We are seeking opportunities for the Colombo North Port Development project. We have already purchased 10,000 acres in Hambanotota and 1000 acres in Bingiriya to establish investment zones. So to realize all these plans, I request our people to vote Sajith Premadasa,” he added.
