This Govt. won’t interfere in judicial system: Min. Wimal Weerawansa

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will neither influence nor interfere in any judicial matter whatsoever, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said yesterday.

When asked by journalists after an event in Colombo, he said they would allow the law enforcement agencies to carry out the necessary legal process without any pressure.

Commenting on the arrest of former minister Rajitha Senaratne, the minister said it was not political revenge but under the law of the country and based on the evidence and charges against him.

“The previous government victimized us by arresting us in an unfair manner. However, we do not indulge in such political games,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister said the statements made by JVP members regarding the recent arrests of two UNP MPs showed they were being used by the UNP.

“It is nothing new for the JVP to speak on behalf of UNP,” he said.
