(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Former General Secretary of the United National Party Tissa Attanayake says he is still a member of the United National Party.

Speaking to media in Kandy Tissa Attanayake said he will work with members of the UNP in future.

He said everyone can question the party membership adding not everyone who claims they are UNPers and vote for the party has a party ticket.

Attanayake said around 400,000-500,000 membership tickets are sold, and when votes are counted the party has around 4.5 million voting for the party.

Tissa Attanayake added the UNP should be fair to those who worked with the party if the UNP is to claim victory at the new Presidential Election.

He said 2020 will be tough claiming if the party is prepared for a revolution then the UNP can claim a win.

Attanayake said before the Presidential Election those who worked for the UNP and carried the party on their shoulder should be treated well.

The Former UNP General Secretary also commented on his decision to support the Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 2015 Presidential Election.

He said it was a political decision he made during the 2015 Presidential Election claiming it was a decision true to his conscious and was an issue stemming from an internal conflict of the party.
