Vaas taking players to the next level

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Former Sri Lanka left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas said someone with a good running technique can become a good fast bowler.

“Fast bowling is an art. It’s not only about running and bowling. One needs a lot of strength and agility and should be prepared to take a heavy work load,” said Vaas.

“I learnt from someone else. I looked up to Ashantha de Mel, Ravi Ratnayake, Rumesh Ratnayake, Wasim Akram, Sir Richard Hadlee and Dennis Lillee. I was at the MRF Pace Foundation when I was 18. Coaching is taking the players to the next level.”

The 43-year-old Vaas is in Mumbai to conduct a camp for Jwala Singh’s Cricket Foundation and players taking part in the Mitsui Shoji T20 League Season 7.

Vaas has a level-3 certificate from Brisbane and is currently the Assistant Coach of the Sri Lanka under-19 team.
