[UPDATE] – Disaster death toll rises to 177: 521,384 People of 140,238 families affected

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The death toll resulting from disaster conditions stands at 169 with 109 still reported missing. 557,505 Individuals of 151,392 families have been affected across 15 Districts.

The Districts of Ratnapura, Kalutara, Matara, Galle, Hambantota, Gampaha, Kegalle, Matale, Kandy, Vavuniya, Mulaivu, Colombo, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Nuwara Eliya have been affected.

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said that Kelani, Kalu, Nilvala and Ging Rivers still pose a threat.

The South-West monsoon unleashed torrential rains, which ravaged across 15 Districts in the Western and Southern parts of the country. The disaster is described as one of the worst-ever calamities since the 2003 floods.
