(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Air Force deployed its Bell 212, Bell 412 and MI 17 helicopters and Y 12 aircraft to assist the on going relief operations in the Western, South, South Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces in the island for the forth consecutive day.
The Air Force conducted more than 30 flight sorties transporting prepared meals, dry rations, medicine, rescue boats and other types of relief aid to the most affected areas in Kalawana, Weddagala, Kalutara, Bulathsinghala, Ayagama, Rathnapura, Baddegama, Wathurawa, Mathara, Thawalama, and Yatigampitiya. Today’s relief operations amounted for delivering more than 19000 cooked meals, 14295kgs of dry rations, 14000 fresh water bottles and approximately 8700 loafs of bread for the people affected by the floods in these areas.
In addition, Air Force aircraft were able to evacuate 11 patients and two pregnant mothers to safer locations, which also resulted in a safe inflight childbirth as well.
The humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force, to assist the affected from the recent despair deluge, are to continue again tomorrow.
