(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A suit over the tragic suicide of Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White is allowed to move ahead, a Judge has ruled.
Last autumn, Cathriona’s mother Brigid Sweetman filed a wrongful death suit against the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actor, centring on whether prescription pills used in White’s 2015 overdose belonged to or were provided by Carrey.
“We are clearly not alleging that Jim Carrey was selling drugs out of the back of his pickup truck and was therefore not marketing or selling in the traditional sense of what that word would bring to mind,” Sweetman’s lawyers are arguing.
Carrey has always denied have any responsibility for Cathriona’s passing, and his legal team had petitioned the courts to dismiss Sweetman’s suit on those grounds before the case moved to trial.
