Sridevi’s mortal remains reach Mumbai, last rites to be conducted today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The body of Bollywood icon Sridevi was flown back to Mumbai on Tuesday (27) after Dubai authorities determined that she had accidentally drowned in her hotel bathtub.

Family members, including her film-maker husband Boney Kapoor and stepson Arjun Kapoor, brought her body in a private jet after three days of uncertainty over her unexpected death on Saturday in Dubai.

Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar and Mohit Marwah are among several celebrities and family members who have already visited Boney Kapoor’s residence earlier this morning (28) to pay their respects.

The Kapoors had announced that before the 3:30 p.m. cremation today, well-wishers can visit the Celebration Club near Sridevi’s home, where a prayer meeting will be held between 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The prayer hall has since opened its doors to allow the grieving public to pay their last respects to the later actor.

Sridevi, known as Indian cinema’s first woman superstar, is survived by her husband Boney Kapoor and their two daughters Jahnvi and Khushi.

In its statement, the family said Sridevi’s body will be kept at Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala near her home for people to pay their last respects from 9:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. before it is taken for cremation. The family said media can also pay their respects “provided camera, recording devices, etc are left outside the venue”.
