Netflix aims for 470 originals by year’s end

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Netflix’s insatiable appetite for content shows no signs of slowing as Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos made a bold pledge at the MoffettNathanson’s Media & Communications Summit currently underway in New York.

Sarandos says that the service is going to spend up to $8 billion on content for 2018, with the easy bulk of new spending (around 85%) going on original TV shows, films, and other productions.

In fact, Netflix expects to have 1,000 originals on the service by the end of the year, with 470 set to premiere between now and December 31st. That’s effectively two new pieces of Netflix programming every day for the rest of the year.

Sarandos adds that more than 90% of customers regularly watch original programming.
