“India can use MRIA only for commercial operations, no military allowed” – Aviation Minister

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) deal with India has several pre-conditions, the Government emphasised on Thursday (19).

According to the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva, the deal with an Indian company to operate the MRIA is purely a business deal, and among the pre-conditions in the agreement is that the Airport can only be used for commercial operations and not military operations.

Under the agreement being discussed with India, the Indian company will receive 70 per cent while Sri Lanka receives 30 per cent of Administrative rights.
