“Venom” and “Spider-Verse” footage screened

(UTV|COLOMBO) – While Sony Pictures had nothing from its currently filming “Spider-Man: Far From Home” to show at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the studio did have a presentation that included footage and Q&A panels for both “Venom” and the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.

Director Ruben Fleischer and stars Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed were welcomed for “Venom” which showed off footage and finally revealed that Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Carlton Drake character becomes another symbiotic creature but it’s not Carnage as some have thought – it’s Riot.

New footage showed Venom and Riot jumping in the air, and the symbiotes open to half reveal Eddie and Carlton. Additionally another scene has Venom threatening to eat every single part of a crook’s body if he doesn’t leave followed by a POV shot of the guy being bitten by Venom.

Onto ‘Spider-Verse’ and filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller confirmed that when Sony approached them about making an animated “Spider-Man” movie, they demanded that it had to be about the Miles Morales version of the webslinger.

Shameik Moore takes on the role in the film which also boasts numerous other alternative universe versions of the character with three more announced at the presentation – Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), S.P.D.R. aka Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney).

The trio join Liev Schreiber as Kingpin, Mahershala Ali as Uncle Aaron, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson, Luna Lauren Velez as Rio, Lily Tomlin as Aunt May, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen and Jake Johnson as Peter Parker.

“Venom” opens October 4th while “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” opens December 14th.
