Blumhouse plans “Fantasy Island” film reboot

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Blumhouse and Sony Pictures are teaming up to reimagine long-running ABC series “Fantasy Island” as a new feature film to be helmed by “Kick-Ass 2” and “Truth or Date” director Jeff Wadlow.

The Aaron Spelling series ran from 1977-84 and follows visitors who come to the titular island to live out their fantasy wishes, an island run by Mr Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) and his assistant Tattoo (Herve Villechaize). The series often included not just dark themes but supernatural elements, making it a good fit for Blumhouse.

Wadlow is writing with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs, while Jason Blum is producing. Blumhouse is coming off “Upgrade,” “The First Purge” and “Unfriended: The Dark Web,” has just premiered “Blackkklansman,” and has “Halloween” and “Glass” on the way in coming months.
