Every person including school children should commit themselves to overcome environmental challenges – President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says at present the Gampaha district has become a place where most challenging environmental issues are prevailing and he further said that all including the school children must commit themselves to overcome these challenges, which could not be underestimated.

He made these remarks participating at the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Bandaranayake College, Gampaha, today (13).

The President requested the students of Bandaranayake College to get lead in protecting the environment.

President Sirisena instructed principals to implement a programme which will influence the students to plant a tree on the birthday of every child.

The President further stated that the environment would be a decisive factor of the survival of human beings, flora and faunas, and explained regarding the necessity of everyone fulfill their respective responsibilities hastily.

The President also opened the X-Ban exhibition organized in parallel to the 100 th Anniversary of the school. The President who joined in viewing the exhibition appreciated the talents of the students.

The President paid special attention for the rocket made by student Gihan Hettiarachchi and said that he will take steps to provide the financial assistance need to launch this rocket.

The students of the College warmly welcomed the President when he arrived there.

The President also paid floral tribute to the War Heroes statue at the premises of the school.

During this event, President Sirisena launched the ‘Vidasa’ digital school.

The Principal of the school Iran Champika de Silva presented a special memento to the President.

Minister Arjuna Ranathunga, Deputy Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Ajith Mannaperuma, SLFP Organizer for the Gampaha district Ajith Basnayake, District Secretary Sunil Jayalath, Chairman of the SLT Kumarasiri Sirisena, the staff of the school, parents, past pupils and others participated on this occasion.
