“President’s decision to dissolve Parliament is consistent with Constitution,” AG says

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Making submissions at the Supreme Court on Tuesday (13), Attorney General (AG) Jayantha Jayasuriya stated that President Maithripala Sirisena has dissolved Parliament through executive powers vested upon him [The President] by the Constitution.

Therefore, the Attorney General has requested Supreme Court to dismiss all petitions against dissolution of Parliament as President Sirisena’s decision is consistent with the Constitution.

The Supreme Court has adjourned hearing of petitions against dissolution of Parliament, for fifteen-minutes.
