(FASTNEWS|COLOMBO) Stan Lee, who passed away on Monday at 95, became as popular for his movie cameos as he was for his creations. Especially for the millennials who did not read comics, he was the jolly old guy with the funny blink-and-you-miss-it movie appearances. Here are the top 10 Stan Lee cameos, starting from the bottom.
Hulk (2003)
In Ang Lee’s film, Stan Lee plays a security guard who is saying to probably his deputy (Lou Ferrigno) that the security should be beefed up in “a place like this”.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
In this Russo brothers directorial, Stan Lee is a security guard at a museum who finds out that the Captain America figure is missing its uniform. We know it is Steve Rogers himself who has stolen it, but the poor security guard doesn’t and can only say, “Oh man. I am so fired.”
Mallrats (1995)
Stan Lee had a meaty cameo as himself or at least a larger-than-life version of himself in this Kevin Smith comedy. Apart from many other things, Lee gives the protagonist romantic advice. This is not a Marvel film, though.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Stan Lee is one of the people in Peter Parker’s Queens neighbourhood who is annoyed by Peter’s, well, superheroics. Like many others giving Peter — in Spider-Man suit — a good scolding, Stan also sticks his head out of the window and warns him not to “make me come down there, you punk!”
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Stan Lee plays a World War II veteran who gets tired of Thor singing praises of the strength of Asgardian liquor (and saying it is not meant for mortals) and decides to have a taste. Unfortunately, he cannot handle the drink and has to leave the party assisted by two men, but not before saying his famous catchphrase, “Excelsior.”
Thor: Ragnarok
In the craziest of Marvel superhero films, it is fitting that Stan Lee plays an elderly barber who snips off Thor’s glorious golden mane against his wishes.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Even as Andrew Garfield’s Spidey and Lizard are fighting in the background, Stan is blissfully unaware of the chaos and is listening to some classical music in the foreground.
Iron Man
Tony Stark mistakes Stan Lee for ‘Hef’ (Playboy magazine founder, Hugh Hefner). He cannot be blamed, really, Lee is surrounded by women.
Doctor Strange
In this Benedict Cumberbatch starrer, Stan Lee is commuting in a bus that Strange and Mordo slam into. Lee is reading Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception and laughing at the book’s contents. This is funny because we are in the middle of an action scene which involves, among other things, multi-dimensional portals.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Stan Lee is holding a conversation with one of the Watchers (one of the oldest beings in the universe who watch over the multiverses) and gets interrupted by Star-Lord and other Guardians.
