Sri Lanka set 301 to win after Dilruwan Perera wraps up innings

(UTV|COLOMBO) – England 290 and 346 (Root 123, Foakes 65*, Burns 59, Dananjaya 6-115) lead Sri Lanka 336 by 300 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Sri Lanka have been set 301 for victory in Pallekele after England’s last-wicket pair Ben Foakes and James Anderson added 22 runs to the overnight score, before Anderson was bowled through the gate by Dilruwan Perera.

England batted for 4.3 overs on the fourth morning, hitting three fours and a six. Anderson struck the first four, whipping the offspin of Akila Dananjaya to the deep square leg boundary, where the fielder Malinda Pushpakumara overran the ball, thereby comically failing to prevent the boundary. Foakes, who had reached his half-century with a six off what turned out to be the last ball of the previous day, then launched another six in the second over, depositing Dilruwan over cow corner.

The batsmen struck one more four apiece – the more attractive of which was Foakes’ lofted cover drive – before the new ball became due. Dilruwan delivered two balls of the 81st over with the old ball, before asking for the new one, and dismissing Anderson immediately.
