(UDHAYAM,COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena says the sustainable existence of humankind depends on the strength of empowered women.
In his message to mark International Women’s Day the Head of State said the sustainable development goals of the United Nations prioritizes the plan to empower all women and female children within the next 15 years.
President Sirisena said the government in its endeavour to achieve sustainable development, has to implement a pragmatic programme to ensure the identity and the protection of women and to give them an opportunity to engage in the development process.
The President added it is the objective of the government to further expand steps taken by the government during the last 2 years to enhance women’s contribution in management and political decision making.
