President returns from Indonesia

(UDHAYAM, JAKARTA) – President Maithripala Sirisena, who was on a state visit to Indonesia to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association Leaders’ Summit, has arrived back in the island.

During his visit, President Sirisena met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and several other world leaders.

The President’s Media Division said the Indonesian President warmly welcomed President Sirisena when he arrived at the official residence of the President of Indonesia, marking the first state visit to Indonesia by a Sri Lankan Head of State in 40 years.

A bilateral meeting between the two leaders commenced following cordial discussions between the two leaders. Joko Widodo said the visit will help to further strengthen close friendly relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Extensive discussions were held regarding the implementation of a new plan to strengthen cooperation in the field of tourism while further attention was focused on implementing a program to exchange technical knowledge in the field of agriculture.

The two leaders also held discussions pertaining to collectively working on strengthening regional security.

Attention was also drawn to the proposal of a Free Trade Agreement between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

President Joko Widodo also said he would provide any required support for development programs in Sri Lanka.

The two leaders also discussed to work with cooperation in the program carried out to strengthen democracy as democratic countries.
