Navy Commander Gets Court Order

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Additional Magistrate of Colombo Jeyaram Trotsky yesterday (09th Thursday) ordered Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne to produce before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), five personnel who had served as Commanding Officers at the Welisara Navy Camp in order to enable the CID to record statements in connection with an abducting and disappearance case.

Commanding officers who had served at the Welisara Navy Camp between 1 January 2009 and 16 July 2014, Captain P. R. D. Dissanayake, Captain N. A. A. P. Nikagolla, Captain D. N. S. P. Kalubowila, and Commodore S. M. D. K. Samaraweera were ordered by the Additional Magistrate to appear before the CID.

The Additional Magistrate issued this order in response to a request submitted by the Officer-In-Charge of the Collective Robberies Investigation Division. An order was also issued by the Additional Magistrate to further remand until 23 March, Lieutenant Commander Mapa Mudiyanselage Dhammika Anil Mapa who served as the Director of the Hospital at the Welisara Navy Camp. He was taken into custody on suspicion of collusion in this incident. The CID informed Court that a statement will be obtained in connection with this incident from former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Anura Senanayake who is in remand on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Rugby star Wasim Thajudeen.
