Easter Sunday violence is against all beliefs-EU

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The European Union says it stands in solidarity with the Sri Lankan people, as you mourn the devastating losses inflicted by the Easter Sunday bombings.

EU Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Tung-Laï Margue in a statement issued to mark the Europe Day 2019 said the violence perpetrated on this Holy Day is an act of violence against all beliefs and denominations, and against all those who value freedom of religion and the choice to worship.

He said “In the wake of these terror attacks, Sri Lanka is confronted with the challenge of ensuring national security. These challenges also confront us in Europe. Terrorists want to spread chaos, cause conflict and disunite our societies. If in our grief we blame a whole community-the terrorists win. If we forget the very basics and values our societies and governments are built on-the terrorists win. If societies divide in the face of terror-the terrorists win”.

Tung-Laï Margue added Europe stands ready to support Sri Lanka in addressing the threat of terrorism and to emerge stronger from this crisis.

The European Union he said has always been a close friend and partner of Sri Lanka- in good and in bad times.
