“Government will protect all soldiers” – Min. Sajith Premadasa

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister Sajith Premadasa says the government is committed to protecting soldiers who contributed to the humanitarian mission.

Speaking at an event in Weeraketiya, Minister Premadasa said the present government is not prepared to punish soldiers based on the demands of the international community.

The Minister said the country has rejected International War Tribunals, adding that the government has rejected the notion of war heroes being produced before War Tribunals for violation of human rights.

Minister Premadasa said under no circumstance will the government betray war heroes by taking them to War Tribunals to pay reparations for its victory.

He said the culture of betrayal is not part of Sri Lanka. Minister Premadasa said the government under any circumstance will not sign documents and hand over our war heroes to the care of foreign nations.

Minister Sajith Premadasa said certain factions are spreading false rumours in order to fulfil narrow political objectives.
