(UTV|COLOMBO) – Minister Sajith Premadasa is expected to be named as the United National Party (UNP)’s Presidential candidate with a proposal by the Party Leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and secondment by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in the coming weeks, Minister Mangala Samaraweera announced yesterday (23) in Matara.
He stated that the UNP will have an elected President of the country after a lapse of 25-years and that President will be elected with a vote base of 65 per cent.
Minister Samaraweera was speaking at a public rally held at the Sanath Jayasuriya Ground in Matara last evening. He stressed that it was the largest gathering he had ever witnessed in Matara.
“Sajith is a young leader in our Cabinet, who is suitable for 2020 and is the only leader who can prevent the country going towards the Rajapakse tyranny,” Minister Samaraweera added.
