(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A man spared jail for abusing his wife after telling the court he would lose an offer to play cricket professionally is to have his sentence reviewed.
Mustafa Bashir, 34, attacked his wife Fakhara Karim with a cricket bat and forced her to drink bleach.
He admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, destroying or damaging property, and using a destructive substance with intent to maim at Manchester Crown Court.
Bashir was was given an 18-month sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to attend a Building Better Relationships Programme. The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order.
