(UTV|COLOMBO) – Several well-placed sources speculated that the former Minister Ferial Ashraff may extend support to Presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa.
Former General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake, and former Minister Upali Piyasoma who had distanced themselves from the Party also pledged their support to Minister Premadasa.
The Working Committee of UNP unanimously nominated the Deputy Leader of the UNP, Minister Premadasa as the Presidential candidate from the United National Front (UNF).
The decision was taken during the Working Committee of the United National Party (UNP) which convened under the patronage of its Leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Party Headquarters ‘Sirikotha’ yesterday (26).
During the meeting, Premier Wickremesinghe had proposed the name of Minister Premadasa for Presidential candidacy and the Working Committee had unanimously approved it.
A large number of UNP supporters had gathered outside the ‘Sirikotha’ to celebrate the nomination of Minister Premadasa.
