Army teams in PATS return with 2 Silvers

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Two Army teams of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and Commando Regiment (CR) who took part in the 2nd International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition – 2017 in Pakistan won two Silver medals during the competitions held between March 31 – April 8.

Held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre near Jhelum in Pakistan, 16 teams from China, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Thailand and United Kingdom along with 8 Pakistan Army teams vide in the military competition which saw 28 field events, within a challenging time-frame of 72 hours conducted.

Sri Lankan Silver medalists this evening (10) arrived home to be welcomed by Major General R.A Nugera, Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment, Brigadier R.P.D.U Rajapaksha, Centre Commandant, Commando Regiment, Colonel Mihindu Perera, Deputy Centre Commandant, Sri Lanka Light Infantry together with a few Senior Officers of both regiments at Bandaranaike International Air Port (BIA).

Sri Lanka’s PATS team with 11 members, including a Team Manager, Team Leader, Team’s Second in Command, Teams Non Commissioned Officer, Wireless Operator, two Riflemen and three more members competed in the PATS.

Pakistan and China teams won Gold medals whereas Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Turkey and United Kingdom teams bagged Silver medals. Bronze medals were won by Pakistan and Malaysia while Jordan was awarded a Merit certificate.

Lieutenant General Ikram ul Haque, Corps Commander Gujranwala who was the chief guest on the occasion awarded medals to the winning teams.

He thanked all foreign military teams for participation and the trust they placed in Pakistan.

Lieutenant General Hidayat ur Rehman, Inspector General training and evaluation and Lieutenant General Azhar Saleh Abbasi, Corp Commander Mangla were also present at the awarding ceremony.
