(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has received a message of condolence, addressed to the government and people of Sri Lanka, from the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, expressing his heartfelt condolences, and that of his government and people, on the recent disaster at a garbage dump in Sri Lanka, which has led to the unfortunate loss of life and property.
Sixteen persons are estimated to have died, many injured and many more rendered homeless by this tragic event.
In the aftermath of this disaster, PM Abe has kindly offered Japan’s assistance to recovery efforts. A technical team from Japan is likely to visit Sri Lanka at the earliest to take stock of the situation and assist in remedial measures. Details are currently being worked out.
