(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge and Deputy Chairman of the SLFP Kumara Welgama have taken a decision to support the presidential candidacy of Sajith Premadasa, it is reported.
They would reveal their stand at a special conference scheduled to be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on November 05th.
Kithsiri Hettiarachchi, of the SLFP said this during a media briefing held at the New Democratic Front election office yesterday (29).
Around 81 electoral organizers, 3000 candidates, 1000 councilors and around 15,000 SLFP supporters are expected to participate in this conference.
At the recent Local Government elections around 9000 candidates had contested under the SLFP and this group is said to be disgruntled with the party leadership for having joined the SLPP without consulting them. Hence, this group is working towards gaining around 700,000 votes in favour of Sajith Premadasa.
He further noted that in the event Gotabhaya Rajapaksa comes to power the SLFP stands the rist of being completely diluted, adding that only around 14 electoral organizers are working towards the victory of Gotabhaya.
