Police Officers’ images used in Gota’s campaign without their knowledge – Police Spokesperson

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The use of a photograph depicting 2 Police Officers who are now in service by the election campaign of Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been done without their knowledge, according to Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ruwan Gunasekara.

An election promotional poster depicting 2 Police Officers with Rajapaksa has been widely circulated on various social media outlets, drawing wide spread criticism.

According to Gunasekara, the Police Officers had been photographed while they were in conversation with Rajapaksa during his visit to the North while on the election campaign trail.

Election Commission laws as per Article 104 B (4) (a) prohibits State Officials from promoting a party or candidate during an election.

However, the Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya stated that they are yet to receive a complaint in this regard and necessary action will be taken once a complaint is lodged.
