(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Carice van Houten, who plays sorceress Melisandre in the show, posted a very telling photo on social media that confirmed her return.
However, it wasn’t just any image but a close-up shot of Melsandre as a wizened old woman with long white hair and deep wrinkles, which is the character’s true form.
Posting the photo on Twitter to her 760,000 followers, she captioned the cryptic snap: “Best special make-up team I ever worked with.”
Up until now it was uncertain whether Melisandre would be returning to Game of Thrones but this photo has clarified that and suggests that she will have a big part to play in season seven.
Melisandre had a pivotal role last year when she brought Jon Snow (Played by Kit Harington) back from the dead using her powers and her real age was revealed to people in the season premiere.
The photo suggests that Melisandre could be using her powers again and supports Jon in his battle against The White Walkers.
Her photo comes as Nathalie Emmanuel, who portrays scribe Missandei, said that season seven would have “a lot of momentum”.
Speaking to InStyle, the 28-year-old said: “I’m excited about this season because a lot of momentum we’ve been building with this winter that is coming, or has been coming for a long time, kicks into gear now.
“And there’s a continuation of characters who haven’t previously interacted coming together, which is always exciting to watch.”
Her words seemed to confirm the theory that Jon will encounter Daenerys Targareyn (Emilia Clarke) as the pair form an alliance.
It is believed that they will defeat the White Walkers led by the Night King before the Mother of Dragons sets her sights on the Iron Throne.
