(UTV|COLOMBO) – New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate, Minister Sajith Premadasa requested the newly-elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to ensure a peaceful environment for NDF supporters with no harassment in the post-election era.
He made this request during a special meeting the Elections Commission had with all Presidential candidates at the Commission premises in Rajagiriya yesterday (17).
While conveying his wishes to seventh Executive President-elect Rajapaksa who was also his rival candidate at the 2019 Presidential race, Premadasa assured him the fullest support to build a prosperous Sri Lanka.
“The first and foremost aim of my 25-year-long political journey was to serve people of this country,” Minister Premadasa stressed.
According to him, the people of this country had enjoyed a free and fair election due to the independent nature of the Elections Commission, institutional reforms and other democratic changes set up within the last five years.
Therefore, he proposed the new President to take steps to further strengthen those reforms in the coming years. The minister also took the opportunity to thank and honour Sri Lankans who actively participated in his election campaign and supported to make his policies a reality.
He was also grateful to the Chairman and the members of the independent Elections Commission, Election Commissioner General, Secretary to the Commission, the staff of the Elections Department and public officers who were dedicated for a free and fair national election.
