(UTV|COLOMBO) – The current retail price of red onions remains as high as Rs.550 a kilo in the market. It is sold at an even higher in super markets where the price ranges between Rs. 560 and Rs.562 per kilo.
Consumers said that a variety of onions which is said to have been imported from China is sold at super markets at
Rs. 520 per Kg.this variety of onion is similar to B onions.
In the meantime, the representatives of the traders’ associations said that they were compelled to import onions based on the shortfall in supply due to crop damage caused by the incessant rain.
