(UTV|COLOMBO) – A special discussion was held to discuss the strategies and swift measures to prevent dengue under the patronage of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, with the participation of Health Ministry executives and members of the Dengue Prevention Unit.
It was decided to hold National level promotion campaigns to prevent dengue and raise public awareness through electronic media, print media and social media.
In order to handle dengue prevention programmes methodically, it was also considered to establish a special investigation unit in the Health Ministry.
It was highlighted in the discussion that schools, work sites and public places are the danger zones for mosquito breeding and a circular will be issued through the Ministry seeking their assistance to prevent dengue mosquito breeding in construction sites. The Minister further said that every citizen has the responsibility in eradicating dengue since it is a life threatening disease.
“Citizens should be vigilant about their surroundings and make the surroundings less conducive for mosquito breeding. We have taken all the measures through the ministry to eradicate dengue and we seek the support of everyone,” she said.
