Centralised database of personal info to be created

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has directed attention to formulating a centralised database which will include personal information of citizens.

Speaking at a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology, the President said the centralised unit will include information of an individual’s NIC, Drivers’ License, immigration and emigration documents, birth certificates, death certificates and all other documented personal information.

President Rajapaksa pointed out that through this initiative the costs for the government will decrease along with the time spent while efficiency will increase significantly.

The Head of State also said centralising the information will increase efficiency of services provided by the departments and institutions of the state sector, opposed to gathering data of a few departments.

The President added the circulation of false information can also be prevented by this initiative.
