India confirm ICC Champions Trophy participation

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (07) announced that their team will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be in England from June 1.

The decision was made after a Special General Meeting featuring senior administrators from the board in New Delhi. The BCCI also authorised the acting secretary of the board to continue negotiations with the International Cricket Council while keeping its legal options open, stated a press release.

The board had reportedly considered pulling out of the event, which will feature seven other Test playing nations, after their revenue sharing proposal was rejected by the ICC.

The release also added that a selection meeting will be held on May 8 in New Delhi to pick the team that will travel to England. There have been speculations that the BCCI would send out a second-string team.

India, the defending champions are in pool B, and are clubbed with arch-rivals Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
