Marcus Stoinis heading home with shoulder injury

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Kings XI allrounder Marcus Stoinis is on his way back to Australia after he was ruled out of the remainder of the IPL with a shoulder injury.

Stoinis reportedly injured his shoulder diving for a ball while warming-up for Punjab’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.

The 27-year-old played five matches for Kings XI this season but failed to replicate his impressive feats from the 2016 tournament.

The extent of Stoinis’ injury is unknown but the Victorian has only a few weeks to recover before he travels to the United Kingdom as part of Australia’s 15-man Champions Trophy squad.

Australia play their first warm-up match against Sri Lanka at The Oval in 19 days’ time before facing Pakistan at Edgbaston three days later.

Australia’s first group-stage match is at the same venue against New Zealand before facing Bangladesh in London then England in Birmingham.

Stoinis has been in India since Marsh when he was a surprise replacement for injured allrounder Mitchell Marsh on Australia’s Qantas Tour of India.

The right-hander is the latest Australian to fall suffer a shoulder during the lucrative competition, following Gujarat Lions paceman Andrew Tye and Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Chris Lynn, who is expected to return.
