(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A Government, which has the mandate of the people, cannot be toppled by Trade Union action, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated. He made these remarks in Badulla addressing a gathering of party supporters of Badulla District.
He stressed that the mandate of people had been received to bring the administration forward in a proper way and if the Trade Unions opposed it, the Government will also retaliate.
Premier Wickremesinghe, while thanking the public servants, who did not support the recent countrywide strike, said that the Trade Unions in public as well as in private sector have problems and the Government always tries to resolve them through the discussions.
“People gave a mandate at the Presidential Election in 2015 and at the General Election same year. If this Government is defeated what will happen to the problems prevailing in the country”, he questioned.
He while thanking the non-strikers once again said that even the party supporters are responsible to ensure that such things doesn’t happen in the future.
