Geetha Kumarasinghe’s Parliament seat abolished

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Parliament seat of Ms. Geetha Kumarasinghe has been abolished as a result of a recent Court order. The Secretary-General of Parliament has informed the Elections Commissioner of the decision.

Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake has informed the Chairman of the Election Commission that the Parliament seat of United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Galle District Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe has been annulled in line with the Court of Appeal verdict.

Last week, the Court of Appeal disqualified Ms. Kumarasinghe from holding a Parliament seat due to her dual citizenship status. The veteran actress holds citizenship in Sri Lanka and Switzerland.
