(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Bangladesh Captain Mushfiqur Rahim was taken to hospital after being struck on the head by a bouncer during the final day of the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington.
Mushfiqur Rahim, 28, has scored 13 in the second innings when he was hit on the helmet by a Tim Southee delivery.
The skipper felt the full force of the blow, with a clear grimace on his face as he knelt at the crease before lying down on the pitch, sparking immediate concerns from both New Zealand’s fielders and his batting parnter Sabbir Rahman.
The 28-year-old was inspected by medical staff from both sides before an ambulance was driven onto the field to take Rahim to Wellington Hospital — less than one kilometre away from the field — as a precaution.
He was taken away in an ambulance for X-rays but a team spokesperson later said he was fine
