President to visit Australia on State visit

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to leave for Australia today (22) for a two-day State visit.

The President is scheduled to hold discussions with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and sign a number of bilateral agreements during the visit, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The visit comes just two months after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s official visit to Australia to celebrate 70 years of the relationship between the two countries.

President Sirisena’s visit is the first state visit to Australia after former Prime Minister Sir John Kotalawala, the President’s Office said. During the visit President Sirisena is also scheduled to visit the Parliament and National Museum in Canberra and hold discussions with a number of Australian Government ministers.
