(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena cabled a message on Wednesday (24) to President-elect Hassan Rouhani to congratulate his re-election as the country’s President, the Iranian News Agency IRNA reported.
In the message, he expressed the hope to witness bolstering of mutual relations during President Rouhani’s taking Office.
”I would like to congratulate you as the new Iranian President on behalf of the Sri Lankan nation and wishing you all the best,” President Sirisena said.
“I am very interested to pay a visit to Iran to help broaden mutual cooperation between the two countries,” he said in his message.
Previously a large number of top officials from different world countries congratulated President Rouhani on his re-election.
The 12th Presidential Election was held nationwide and in 102 world countries on May 19 and Mr. Rouhani re-elected as President scoring 57% of votes.
