(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Upon a request made by the government of Sri Lanka, Japan has decided to dispatch the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Expert Team to Sri Lanka in response to the damages from the floods and landslides caused by the heavy rainfall since May 24 around Southern and Western areas of the country.
The JDR Expert team will depart for Sri Lanka tomorrow (02).
“Upon the request of the Government of Sri Lanka, and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Sri Lanka to meet its humanitarian needs,” Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
Responding to a request of the Sri Lankan government. Japan on Monday (May 29) decided to provide emergency relief goods including tents, plastic sheets, and sleeping pads through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
