(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A section of the Sri Lanka postal department workers will launch a 24-hour strike from midnight Monday and the operations of many post offices are expected to be paralyzed as a result of the trade union action.
The United Postal Trade Union’s Front says the protest will be carried out till June 14.
Reportedly, a protest would be staged outside the Colombo Central Mail Exchange at midnight tonight demanding solutions to a number of unresolved issues in the Postal Department.
The union says they are protesting against the government’s move to convert the historic buildings of the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy and Galle post offices into tourism offices and several other management issues.
A union spokesperson said the strike would continue if the government fails to take necessary steps by June 26 midnight.
